We believe our union should reflect the society we live and work in. There are more than 10 million elderly people in the UK. Retired and working members have a shared interest in obtaining decent incomes in older age, a universal health service and the creation of a civilised society. Today's workers are tomorrow's pensioners and UNISON's members work in public services on which many older people rely. (23/01/2012) NW UNISON Regional Retired Members hold a well attended AGM NW Regional Retired Members AGM was held in County Offices, Preston on Friday, 13 January 2012. 38 members were in attendance along with the Regional Secretary, Kevan Nelson, and the Regional representative, June Poole. Following a minutes silence for members who were no longer with us, the Chair made introductions to the meeting and apologies for absence were given. The Chair went through the minutes of the previous meeting and the minutes were then agreed. There were no matters arising from the minutes. The Regional Secretary addressed the meeting, outlining UNISON’s priorities for the coming year and encouraging retired members to take an active role in the union via their branches. He then answered a number of questions from the floor. The Chair gave his update on 2011 and the Secretary informed the meeting of the various committees and forums that were attended by members of the Retired Members Committee. It was agreed to again affiliate to the National Pensioners Convention and the North West Pensioners Association, and members were informed of a UNISON Welfare Seminar to be held at Arena Point, Manchester at 10am on 24 March. It was also reported that approval had been given for the acquisition of a NW Regional Retired Members’ banner. NW REGIONAL RETIRED MEMBERS COMMITTEE MEETING 13 JANUARY 2012. Following on from the AGM, the first meeting of the Regional Retired Members Committee was held. New members were welcomed to the committee and introductions were made. Priorities for 2012 were discussed and it was agreed that motions to the National Retired Members’ Conference be brought to the next meeting for discussion. It was reported that the Pensioners Parliament this year would be held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from 19-21 June. Committee meeting dates for the coming year are:- 30 March, 20 July, 21 September and 16 November.
