Migrant Workers

Migrant workers make up an increasing part of the public sector workforce. They are an essential part of our public services and without them many of our public services simply could not function.

Unscrupulous employers can use migrant worker’s ignorance about their rights, language barriers and the reticence of many migrants to complain to exploit migrant workers. Many migrants face the additional disadvantage of working in the privatised sector and being second class members of the two tier workforce.

UNISON is responding to this challenge by organising migrant workers. We believe that the way to prevent exploitation and undercutting is to get migrants organised in the union.

More information is available on our National Website

"I'm very proud that UNISON welcomes migrant workers to the UK and values their contribution to our economy, our society, and our culture.

I hope you will join up, join in and encourage your colleagues to join UNISON."
