Who's Who - Ann McAleer

My original union was NUPE, which combined with UNISON makes me one of the old timers of 36 years membership. Currently within the branch I am a steward representing members on the flexibank, whilst also administering membership and welfare. Both time consuming roles especially in the current climate.

During the years I have held many positions within the branch, secretary, chair, learner representative, Health & Safety Officer and secretary of the staff side within our Trust. All of which I enjoyed and found enlightening

Right now I am chair of the Regional Women’s Forum and Regional Welfare Committee, sit on the Regional Health Committee, Labour Link, Regional Committee plus Learning & Development Committee.

Nationally I sat on the National Women’s Committee for several years till February 2008 when my term finished and am Co-chair of the North West Women’s TUC.

My profession is nursing and I work part time, mostly weekends and bank holidays in a busy general hospital in general medicine on the flexibank.

Outside of UNISON I sit on the Employment Tribunal and the Reserve Forces Appeal Tribunal. My hobbies include darts, ballroom dancing, travelling and swimming.
