Regional Committee

(12/12/2011) At the NW Regional Committee on the 6th December 2011 congratulations were extended to the whole of the NW for the effort put in to ensure the day of action on 30.11.11 was a success.  Lessons are to be learnt from the industrial action in that the union needs to review certain areas regarding critical cover and membership exclusions.  The Committee noted the support provided by the retired members group.

It is proposed to hold a Policy weekend on the 24th/26th February 2012.

The Regional Secretariat Group are to submit two draft motions for approval at the next Regional Council on the 4th February 2012.  The two motions to be on (1) Pay; and (2) Employment Rights.

Delegates and Officers were nominated for the North West TUC for 2012.  It was agreed that two motions be submitted for the NWTUC Annual Conference 2012 - (1) Campaigning against austerity and in defence of public services in the NW; and (2) Regional Pay/Local Bargaining.

A cleansing exercise in RMS over the last few weeks, in preparation for the pensions dispute, was reflected in the latest recruitment figures.  There had been a significant improvement in the number of joiners, particularly with LG.  IMPS to provide a random sample of an online ‘joiners’ report to the RSG.  That an RMS User Group meeting to be arranged in the near future.  Temporary GFF Local Organiser posts for the NW to be re-advertised in the New Year.

Following the 30.11.11 day of action the union trying to negotiate an outcome but also need to determine the next stage.  An Employment Tribunal pre-claim conciliation process is to be introduced in 2012 which will involve seeking to conciliate with the employer prior to going to Tribunal.

Pensions campaign ongoing.  Need to look at what more the union can be doing re the Health & Social Care Bill.  A review of all publicity materials/equipment held ‘in house’ to be undertaken to determine what can be obtained which would be flexible for use by all branches/groups.

A NW Branch Treasurers Convention to be held on 27th/28th January 2012 in Blackpool.
