Union Slams Wirral Council For Trying to Silence its Workforce |
|
UNISON the public service union have condemned the draconian measures being used by Wirral Council with threats of disciplinary action against the workforce and representatives if they petition in the workplace opposing the closures of libraries, sports and community centres, arts and museums and other buildings, also the privatisation of care and transport services.
Joe Taylor, Branch Secretary said:-
"UNISON and its members have the right to campaign within the workplace. We circulated our petitions in the workplace for workers and the public to sign, to defend cuts in jobs and services in Wirral."
"What is this authority and councillors afraid of, to have to use these intimidatory tactics? If any UNISON members are issued with disciplinary notices, we will defend their and our right to campaign in the workplace and if necessary, after consultation with the membership, go into dispute over this issue".
