UNISON Welfare - Vacancies - Board of Trustees

UNISON Welfare, UNISON's registered charity. With an annual income of over £1million, paid staff and a network of volunteers UNISON Welfare is active in supporting members and their families. Using a combination of grant giving and a programme of services including information and advice on a range of issues, get well breaks and holidays, UNISON Welfare aims to make a real difference to the lives of UNISON members.

Our trustees are responsible for directing the charity in line with its mission and ensuring the organisation is managed effectively.

With the current term of office for six of our Trustees coming to an end in April 2010 the present Board is now looking to recruit Trustees. To complement the skills of existing members, enquiries are particularly welcome from anyone with knowledge or understanding in the following areas: financial awareness, an appreciation of the voluntary/charity sector, training and working with volunteers.

UNISON Welfare has entered an exciting period with the focus on developing and strengthening the organisation. The aim is to provide quality services to members in need. Trustees need to be able to give the time and commitment to ensure that Welfare continues to be seen as a vital benefit to UNISON members.

Interested? Applications are welcome from full members who are either actively involved in UNISON as a branch welfare officer and/or as a member of a Regional Welfare Committee.

Trustees act in a voluntary capacity and out of pocket expenses are paid. Trustees also benefit from an induction and ongoing training and support. Trustees attend six meetings a year including a weekend seminar and meetings in London and the regions.

UNISON Welfare is committed to equality and justice. With members that include men and women of all ages, black and ethnic minority groups, disabled people, gay, lesbian and transgender members, our aim is to have a Board that reflects this diversity.
