UNISON lays on transport for flood affected staff in Workington

Responding to the floods in Cumbria, UNISON the biggest public services trade union is laying on transport for its members to help them to get to and from work.

The union has hired a shuttle bus from Monday 7 December to Thursday 31 December 2009 from Workington train station to both Allerdale House and Workington Town Hall in the Town. There are 2 journeys in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Jill Owen, Branch Secretary of the Allerdale UNISON branch said. "Our members have suffered considerably over recent weeks both directly as a result of the floods and in getting to and from work. We also acknowledge the exceptional work our members have done in helping local communities deal with the crisis. In times like these you can always rely on public service workers to rise to the challenge. This is our way of saying a big thank you for the exceptional effort made by our members."
