European Elections: Make your Vote Count on 4 June |
|
On Thursday 4 June every union member will be given the chance to stop the BNP and the politics of hate by voting in the European elections.
UNISON has a strong and proud tradition of standing up to the racist BNP and this year is no different.
The BNP has its sights set on winning a seat in the European parliament and with Nick Griffin the BNP leader standing in the North West, UNISON is campaigning to make sure that does not happen.
Rodney Bickerstaffe, President of the UK National Pensioners Convention, retired General Secretary of UNISON said "I'm going to be voting Labour in the European elections on 4th June because they are the only party that put pensioners' and workers' rights at the heart of their work in the European Parliament.
Of all of the seats up for grabs across Britain, the crucial battle is right here in the North West where every vote counts. It is a battle between a real voice for hard working people and the racist xenophobic politics of the BNP. Labour's Theresa Griffin, Arlene McCarthy and Brian Simpson are candidates who have a record of delivering for people in the North West and I know that they will be great advocates for the North West in Brussels and in Strasbourg.
Labour has the values, vision and ability to build a Europe that gets the North West and the rest of Britain out of this recession and deliver for public service workers.
I urge you to join me by voting Labour on 4th June, because fairness matters much more than division and isolation."
