University of Cumbria - Job Losses |
|
The University of Cumbria has announced between 70 and 80 jobs could go in their attempt to reduce staffing costs. The cutbacks are due to a reduction in income and the merger two years ago of the Cumbria Institute of the Arts, St Martin's College and Cumbrian campuses of the University of Central Lancashire.
It is not clear at the moment how many of the job losses will be support staff.
Dave Armstrong, UNISON Regional Organiser said "the current position is that the University is suffering from lack of income stream - they have already implemented a reduction in hours for some staff and are now looking at a voluntary severance scheme, and there may then be a potential redundancy situation. UNISON is working hard on behalf of the members at University of Cumbria and is supporting them through this worrying time."
