Free Family Day Saturday 3 July 2010 The Bluecoat , Liverpool Pop in to the Bluecoat in the heart of Liverpool on Saturday 3 July 2010 for the ever-popular free Family Day, with, music, dance and storytelling for all ages. As the main sponsor of the festival UNISON North West will have a stall at the Bluecoat Centre with material explaining the work we do both internationally and locally to promote social cohesion within our communities. We will also be giving away freebies and promoting “Million Voices”. Members and new members, who sign up on the day, will also receive a free copy of Palestinian Walks by the lawyer and peace activist Raja Shehadeh. (see details below) UNISON members and their families are encouraged to attend to learn more about Arabic culture, and the other UNISON events below. We look forward to seeing you.
Living Book Event Wednesday 14th July 2010 1 .00 – 3.00 pm The Bluecoat , Liverpool
Instead of checking out a normal book, people will be able to "borrow" our guest speakers who each have their own unique story to tell about their experience of Arabic culture. Guest speakers include: Trade Unionists and people from the Arabic world. If you would like to attend this event, please contact Victoria Walton (v.walton@unison.co.uk or telephone 0161 661 6716) as soon as possible as places are limited. Refreshments will be provided.
Literary Event Friday 13 August between 12 and 2 pm Palestinian Walks by Raja Shehadeh (Free Copy to UNISON members)
Raja has lived in Ramallah on the West Bank since 1948, during which over a million Palestinians have been displaced. In Palestinian Walks Raja ties the beauty he sees in his disappearing homeland to the crumbling of his dreams for a legal solution to the Israeli occupation. Members who request a copy of the book will later be invited to attend a literary event on Friday 13 August between 12 and 2 pm at the Bluecoat Centre to discuss their reaction to the book and how it made them feel. The event will include guest speakers and lunch and refreshments will be provided. If you wish to receive a copy of the book, please contact Victoria Walton at UNISON North West Regional Office, (v.walton@unison.co.uk or 0161 661 6716) with your relevant details, including name, address and membership number. |
