- We have been offering our internally provided Branch Secretary
Development Programme now for around 4 years. During one of the modules
we signpost to participants external learning provision for those who
employ staff in the Branch and/or who lead a team of seconded officers.
The Manchester College has been in consultation with the Chair of the
Regional Learning and Organising Committee and the Regional Convenor and
is now in a position to offer large local government branches in the
North West a bespoke course
• Institute of Leadership and Management - level 3 award in Effective
Management - An externally provided course for UNISON Branch Officers
This would take place from Thursday 29th September (10.30am start)
to Saturday 1st October (close with lunch) at their Conference Centre in
Newton Health a short taxi ride from either Victoria or Piccadilly
Railway Stations in Manchester.
Whilst this is essentially a non residential event there is some
residential accommodation at the centre for those who do not live close
by. There would be places for around 20-25 participants (there are
around 15 en-suite rooms). Costs would be around £50 for a non
residential place and £120 for a residential place – but we are awaiting
a final exact amount from the college authorities.
I have agreed to write to you now to ask you to consider who in your
branch would most benefit from this course - and to begin to compile a
waiting list of expressions of interest. If we are oversubscribed the
Manchester College has agreed to select following the proportionality
and fair representation protocols operating in UNISON. Those
unsuccessful this time round would be guaranteed a place on a subsequent
course – dates yet to be decided.
If you and your branch colleagues are interested please send in names
and membership numbers for the initial waiting list to Kim Scott our
course administrator [email protected] or telephone her on 0161 661
6777 indicating clearly whether you will require a residential place.
