Course Noticeboard
On the Courses Noticeboard you will find early details of new additions to the programme which may not yet appear in the general
Course Catalogue and Calendar.
As some of you will be aware, Kim Scott,
has taken up the post of course administrator full time in the Regional Learning
and Organising Unit at Arena Point. Kim will shortly be tackling a couple of our
backlogs – those of
• activist credentials
• invoices for course registration fees
Activist Credentials
We are awaiting delivery of ERA certified stewards credentials. As soon as we
receive these in the region letters will be sent to around 800 newly accredited
ERA certified stewards. This issuing of credentials will from today, take place
on a monthly basis. All new stewards, ERA certified stewards, Health and Safety
Reps and Learning reps – added to RMS in the previous month – will be sent
credentials along with a letter from the General Secretary and information about
follow on training.
A related issue regarding the issuing of credentials centres round the
attendance of UNISON activists on the TUC
• stage one course for new workplace stewards
• learning reps course
It has been difficult to obtain accurate attendance information from the TUC on
a consistent basis. I am about to remind the TUC units in FE colleges of our
need for UNISON attendance information from the above two courses. TUC tutors
should keep a record of which UNISON members attend these two courses and let me
have the information as speedily as possible. They should also issue UNISON
participants with an attendance certificate (which I provide) and which the
participant keeps and uses as evidence of their attendance for the information
of their Branch Education Coordinator. Once I have evidence of the attendance I
am then in a position to issue credentials. Without this evidence we cannot
issue credentials. Therefore I write to ask for your assistance in this matter.
When your branch authorises activists to attend either one of these two
particular TUC courses could you please ask them to speak to their tutor about
these matters especially the completion of a UNISON register and the issuing of
attendance certificates.
Invoices for UNISON Course Registration Fees
Over the next fortnight I will issue branches with invoices for course
registration fees covering the period August to December 2009. I apologise for
this backlog and hope to work towards the issue of quarterly invoices in the
future
• in April for January to March courses
• in July for April to June courses
• in October for July to September courses
• in January for October to December courses
Please do not hesitate to contact Kim
